More than likely, your .htaccess file was not uploaded (or is not functioning) properly. Reupload it to the base directory of your website, overwriting any existing file that may be there.

I'm having the same problem but with Windows installation. I'm using Windows 2000 Server + IIS5.0 + PHP 5.2.13 (through IIS ISAPI application because FastCGI does not support Windows 2000) + mySQL 5.1.46. Home page works fine but redirected URLs do not work giving 404 error. I have installed IIRF Windows mod_rewrite implementation but looks like it does not work for me for some reason, IIS Manager shows IIRF ISAPI filter up and running but IIS continue to show 404 page. I'm wondering if anybody has experience with setting up Kwikcontent under IIS, having numerous issues with PHP scripts not working properly I guess these source codes were never tested with IIS.

Download ISAPI Rewrite module from
http://www.helicontech.com/isapi_rewrite/ which works with Windows 2000 with IIS 5 and that should help the 404 issue for the search engine friendly urls
I use Windows myself along with IIS for my webservers here and my kwikcontent sites.
